Анотація

У традиційній формі американська риторична критика стосується аналізу, оцінки та критики публічних повідомлень. Традиційні підходи часто зосереджуються на ораціях, але сучасні підходи поширюються Й на інші об'єкти, які "спілкуються", включаючи письмові документи та візуальні об'єкти. Ця стаття знайомить читачів із риторичною критикою США як засобом подолання інтелектуальних прогалин між світовими вченими. Стаття починається з короткого огляду традиційних і новітніх методів риторичної критики в Штатах. Пропонується приклад риторичної критики, а саме детальний аналіз тексту радіо- й телевізійного звернення колишнього американського президента Річарда М. Ніксона до народу Радянського Союзу 28 травня 1972 року в рамках його московського саміту з генеральним секретарем Леонідом Брежнєвим та іншими радянськими державними сановниками. Розглядаються критичні зауваження щодо підходу до детального аналізу тексту та пропонується один із засобів, а саме використання архівних досліджень. Стаття завершується поясненням корисності та доречності критики до видів комунікацій.
